All roads head for Drumnadrochit, Loch Ness on 24th August 2019 for the annual Glenurquhart Highland Games, one of the last on the calendar and a great spectacle in a wonderful setting.
The games take place in Blairbeg Park in the centre of the village and begin in the morning at 10.45am with the Loch Ness Pipes and Drums before the kick-off of the local event at 11.00am.
The official opening is at 1.00pm with more pipe bands including famous stalwarts The Royal British Legion Inverness along with 1st Battalion Army cadet Band.
The afternoon includes all the heavy events, tossing the caber, weight over the bar, tug-o-war and more. Highland dancing takes place in the centre of the field, and piping competitions for individuals go on all day.
Around the field, there are many stalls selling craft, art, tweed and leather goods along with a tea tent for your lunch.
The Glenurquhart Highland Games are amateur games, so the competition is fierce for honour, glory and celebrating the ancient clan rivalries that took place hundreds of years before.
So put a date in your diary to head to Drumnadrochit, Loch Ness for the Games. Check out our hotels for accommodation during your stay in the area.
I will see you there as I am one of the announcers and commentators for the afternoon activities, so make yourself known to me and I will give you a shout out from the field.
Fingers crossed that the weather stays in our favour as it’s always a good day with a great display of pies and drums. Join us in the village hall after the games for a wee dram of the amber nectar.
