Whisky tasting

Perhaps the best known of Scottish exports, whisky may well be an essential ingredient of your Highland experience and here at Loch Ness Lodge we are delighted to be able to incorporate this in a variety of ways.

You may wish to have a private VIP tour of a local distillery with a tasting of its malts.

Glen Ord Distillery Visitor Centre and Whisky Shop is the closest one to Loch Ness Lodge, located near Muir of Ord just 15 miles west of Inverness, and it is also one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland – dating back to 1838.

The main tour gives an overview of the whisky making process. See the distillers at work creating the award-winning single malt whisky, Singleton of Glen Ord. Enter a duty free warehouse to see where the whisky rests, maturing in casks for 12 years in the dark silence. You have the chance to nose both a sherry and bourbon cask to detect the difference in aromas. No visit is complete without enjoying a dram of the special spirit, which has been described as "a rich, well balanced, sophisticated single malt".

The visitor centre is open from: April to September, Monday to Friday from 10am-5pm and Saturday 11am-5pm; from July to September on Sunday from 12noon - 4pm, and from October to March, Monday to Friday from 11am-4pm.

Alternatively, you may opt for an in-house whisky experience at the lodge which we are delighted to be able to offer in conjunction with malt connoisseur, Regis Lemaitre. Whether it be a specially tailored whisky tasting for novices or a masterclass for enthusiasts or even a whisky dinner where the art of selecting malts to complement different dishes and courses is explained, an entertaining and informative experience is assured!
